For their third successive year, Uncontaminated, the three-day collaborative arts festival held annually in Oslo, boasts a typically brilliant assemblage of creative talent from around the world. At this intersection of art and fashion, artists, photographers and designers converge upon the idyllic water ways and renovated factories of Aker Brygge to present their work across historic buildings, empty offices and car parks, the festival providing an immersive platform to showcase some of the most exciting emerging international talent. This year, the festival is teaming up with the National Museum of Norway, who will be offering visitors a sneak preview of their new site in Mellomstasjonen, where they are set to become the largest contemporary art museum in the Nordic countries and positioned to be at the forefront of exhibiting this cross-disciplinary event.
Among the many highlights of this year’s event are the photographs of Pierre Ange-Carlotti, the enfant terrible of the Parisian underground photography scene, who will be showing alongside four international artists whose works have been selected for their representation of a new frontier of fashion and art. “I just did a book signing in Berlin at the 032C workshop and it was the very first time I was doing something outside of my town – Paris – without a brand and a team, just on my own with my personal work and my name and it happened to be a very interesting experience,” he said of showing outside of home turf. “People come without kid gloves, either they like it or they don’t but they’re not here because they are your friends. I enjoyed that honesty.” Together with Campbell Addy, the creative force behind Nii Journal, Eloise Parry, Vicki King and Samantha Casolari, the collective exhibit is not to be missed.
This year’s festival will also feature a number of diverse pop-ups, from exhibitions to film screenings, performances and even live graff sessions, free for everyone and provide an open invitation to explore some of the more unusual and unexpected venues at Aker Brygge. There are many. Among some of the talks on offer: Pierre-Ange Carlotti will be discussing his portrayal of Parisian underground fashion, while Vicki King offers an explanation for her rejection of the ordinary and exploration of taboo in her work. For those lucky enough to be making the journey North, be sure to drop in on a special talk with legendary snapper Mick Rock, AKA ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies’ and Gucci collaborator.
