Boy Meets Beauty: We Talk The AW17 Trends

Beauty

I’ll be honest, it feels like it’s been years since we saw the AW17 shows storm the runway back in February. Now that the clothes are arriving in stores, it’s time to think about your fall looks, and let’s not forget about the ones for your face – a look is never complete without a little face. Marvel here at the finest beauty looks from the season.

Clean and clear and out of control

Fresh flawless baby skin is in, leave the layering to your clothes and keep the face naked. As easy as cleaning, toning and moisturising, this is the look I’ll be sporting come the cooler months. For those like me, who suffer from dark circles, a little concealer won’t hurt and will brighten everything up for that new born realness we saw at Céline and Loewe. If completely naked skin isn’t for you, apply a subtle highlight – we suggest a creamy white or clear product to avoid it looking more than a natural, “I just saw my crush and I’m feeling flustered” dewiness – Miu Miu nailed this look.

All eyes on me

Phoebe (no not Philo, Briggs, as in our Editorial Directress) inspired this one – she loves a bit of a dramatic eye and she does it bloody well. Follow the skin steps from above but then go ham on those sockets. Prada offered us a two tone look with blue and black smudged out for a hard meets soft effect, while Giorgio Armani gave us a smokey, blown out all-over-slept-in-last-nights-makeup feeling (don’t sleep in your makeup it’s awful for your skin!), but if you just touch it up then you too can achieve a high fash look. For those who really like to serve some drama, in the words of Coco Montrese “I ain’t joking bitch,” Balmain gave us what we’re calling a reverse cats eye – as in the flick was on the bottom lash line as opposed to the top. Finish it off with metallic highlight across the lid and you’re ready to join the army. The Balmain army. Not the real one. We’re lovers not fighters.

In the pink

Last but certainly not least, a subtle pink eye was everywhere this season. No we don’t meant that gross sickness you get from poop particles getting in your eye. We’re talking a lovely dusting of pinky nude, in and around the eyes, J.W.Anderson and Louis Vuitton went for a subtle eye and fresh skin, while Alexander McQueen went for a more high shine look with a frosty highlight to compliment. The best part of this is how quick you can achieve it – just choose a shade best suited for you, apply generously to your upper lid and wipe the remainder under and voila, ready to roll.
