Lee McQueen loved a well-tailored suit – in his own wardrobe, and on his catwalks, for men and women. Sarah Burton does too – her latest menswear show was an exercise in expert cutting, overlaying formal menswear shapes – tailcoats, greatcoats and simply great coats – with fabulous feminine details, like veils of chiffon, embroideries of crystal or jet, and a recurrent butterfly motif. Maybe because this collection was just as light, precious, and alive as one.
