3.1 Phillip Lim Celebrates Earth Day With T-Shirts

Phillip Lim

Remember that song JCB? You know, 2005, one-hit wonder – ‘I’m Luke, I’m five, and my dad’s Bruce Lee, Drives me round in his JCB’. Yer, maybe some things are probably best forgotten. That said, when I saw the amazing set by artist Maya Lin for Phillip Lim’s 10th anniversary Spring 2016 runway show my interest in digging-based things was re-awakened –  Maya had made a set of gigantic humps of several months’ worth of compost from Lim’s studio, all about saving the planet with soil. But the dynamic duo didn’t stop there. To coincide with Earth Day (today!) they have launched a collection today of a range of limited edition unisex organic cotton tees featuring unique life-sized footprints of four species facing the critical threat of extinction: the Siberian Crane, the African Elephant, the Black Rhinoceros and the Tiger. As Lim described, “It’s quite impactful when you realise the footprints are actually to scale. I knew the design couldn’t be pictures of the animals looking cute and cuddly—these footprints will be the only things left of them if we don’t do anything.” We hear you. The t-shirts are available exclusively at 3.1 Phillip Lim boutiques in New York City, Los Angeles and London Pelham Street store and 31philliplim.com. Each t-shirt will retail for £95 with retail profits benefitting the What is Missing? Foundation – go, go, go!
