AZZEDINE ALAÏA LONDON BOUTIQUE LAUNCH: A Night To Remember

Ai1“That was really special,” last night’s opening of the new Azzedine Alaïa boutique on London’s Bond Street elicited comments from many guests, a mix of friends of the designer, many of the capital’s creatives, along with the house’s loyal customers.

The 3-storey boutique, with huge arched windows overlooking one of the capital’s finest streets and directly opposite auction house Sotheby’s, was the perfect location for the master couturier’s exciting new space. “You don’t get light like this in any shop.” said Alaïa’s closest friend Carla Sozzani, who worked on the launch with the designer before his untimely passing last November.

Another great friend of Alaïa, supermodel Naomi Campbell, hosted the evening, which was filled with all of those that had been touched, at one time or another, by the couturier’s kindness and love.

Between sips of champagne and vodka, guests including Carla Sozzani, Edie Campbell, Katie Grand, Edward Enninful, Stephen Jones, Manolo Blahnik, Erin O’Connor and Yasmin Le Bon, caught up and reminisced, swapping stories of the great man’s wit. Many talked of his “naughty streak” but all spoke of his love.

It was a night of mixed emotions for many of us, especially Carla Sozzani, who told us as she walked us around the new boutique: “He would be really happy with this; he loved London. To open here was his dream.”
