Birkenstock Travels To California To Team Up With Rick Owens

ROIs it a bird? Is it a plane? Neither! It’s the Birkenstock Box – and it’s landed at the Temple of Rick, like a giant, white (and very un-aerodynamic) fashion spaceship. Designed by Gonzalez Haase, the Birky Box is in fact a mobile retail space, comprised of converted freight containers that are jetted around the globe to exotic locations like Berlin, New York, Milan and now Los Angeles, where it’s innards are continually re-imagined, hosting each partner’s interior concept and merchandise proposition. Smart. This time, we’ve got ourselves a little box of Rick, who not only designed the space, but also selected an assortment of his own looks, objects, furniture and accessories to put inside. The pièce de résistance of this Rick Owens cornucopia is naturally the limited edition Birkenstock footwear, of which there are three different styles available in four different fabrics. Army felt, suede, full grain leather and longhair pony, meaning you can now not only look fabulous in your new sandals, but pretend you are playing footsie with a small horse at the same time. Speaking on the collaboration, Rick shared the following cryptic message: “I like a steady original invested in the long game”. What does it mean? We can’t be sure, but we think we’d like it on our gravestones.

The bespoke Rick Owens x Birkenstock styles will be offered for pre-order starting March 1st and launch on all Rick Owens and Birkenstock channels on March 15th, 2018.
