A First Look At Riccardo Tisci’s Latest Nike Collaboration

RT-BELLA-HI-RES_66111

Following last week’s emotional announcement that Riccardo Tisci would be leaving the house of Givenchy after a twelve year tenure, the designer has reminded us of what we’ll all be missing with the reveal of his fourth (!) collaboration with NikeLab. This time, we’re told it will showcase the designer’s longstanding appreciation of the skater-cum-80’s basketball aesthetic. If you’re in any need of some clarification on what particular aesthetic they might be referring to, we’re thinking Magic Johnson meets Steve Caballero – hair-raisingly short shorts, Nike Airships, Santa Cruz crewnecks – yeah, you get the picture. But this is about trainers. Mr Tisci’s a self-professed “Air Force 1 guy’, as evidenced by his first collab, a homage to the trainer that would change basketball shoes forever, all the way back when Riccardo was shootin’ hoops and slamming alley-oops in his native Italy. Three years on, and Tisci’s brand new Mid Dunk Lux Chukka’s (shown above) continue this obsession, taking on the iconic Dunk once again. This time, those exaggerated proportions are back – including what I’m told is called the ‘big belly swoosh’. AKA the big Nike tick. Sexy. The whole thing has a bit of a boxing vibe, feeling like it will pair just as willingly with your favourite jeans than sporting-based attire. And, judging by the new campaign shoot with Bella Hadid, it looks like Tisci was thinking along similar lines.
