This just in – moments ago, via WWD, we’ve received news that Nicola Formichetti is set to leave Diesel as Artistic Director. Well know is our love of Mr Formichetti and all he has done for the Italian powerhouse – pressing “reboot” when he began at the brand, masterminding not just the collections but the advertising and how the stores look. “The contract expires at the end of December, so there is not that much to say,” said Renzo Rosso to WWD. “We’ve had five fantastic years. It was a fantastic collaboration. I really love very much what was done, and the relationship between us is really special.”
And seems like this was a happy break-up – Nicola describing his time at Diesel as “amazing. I’ve had a good time, but we both decided to end it here. I travel a lot to New York and Tokyo. I want to concentrate on my projects, but there will always be a bond between us.”
Nicola will continue to design his own label, Nicopanda, which partnered with Amazon Fashion at London Fashion Week, whilst Diesel are yet to announce his replacement. We wish both Diesel and Nicola the very best of luck with their future endeavours!
