Maison Margiela’s John Galliano Is Going Fur Free

Another one bites the dust. Would it be 2018 if there wasn’t another weekly announcement of a label going fur free? Not that we’re complaining, we’re very into this trend. This morning Maison Margiela’s creative director John Galliano announced that he is officially ditching fur. The news comes after Gucci and Versace both announced they were doing the same in the last few weeks. So how did this decision come about, you ask? PETA pulled a ‘Jaws’ on Galliano.“One summer, I was swimming in the sea with Penélope Cruz in St. Tropez,” Galliano told French Elle in an interview with PETA senior vice president Dan Mathews. “And just then, Dan’s face popped out of the water. It was like in Jaws, very frightening!” The ominous, thunderous Jaws theme music is obvs now playing in the office. ‘First Victim.’ The menacing sound of what’s coming to those who still use fur. We digress. Turns out PETA’s victimisation worked alongside Galliano’s recent turn to vegetarianism and his love for his dog Gipsy. It all counts. By next season he might even be vegan. Progress. Now we wait and see who next chooses to go fur free. ’Til then we will continue to dream of Margiela’s Couture and Autumn/ Winter 2018 technicolour, metallic, reflective strobing plastic trenches and jackets. No fur needed.
