Off-White Collaborates with Rimowa
Rimowa is raking in the cool collaborations as of recent. A few weeks ago all the hypebeasts of the world were rolling out of Rimowa on red hot suitcases after the Supreme collaboration sold out in 16 seconds. So we’re expecting a solid 6 second sell out for the Off-White collaboration. Yes, Virgil Abloh has joined forces with the luxury luggage brand. We knew the alliance was happening when co-chief executive of Rimowa, Alexandre Arnault teased the suitcases on Instagram. Back then, the design looked to be black with the word “Personal” and “Belongings” on each case (with quotation marks intact, obvs). Now, the final design is transparent, so clean, although we’re not sure how to feel about this. Airport appropriate meets invasive. Not that we have anything to hide…We can’t wait to see Virgil’s loyal fans lining up at customs checking out which Nike x Off-White shoes are in the bag. So in some ways, this is the kind of literal exposure the Off-White customer wants. “It’s like 3.0 of personalisation,” Virgil said about the design. “It’s not just putting your initials on it but allowing another layer to come in play,” he explained. “There’s an emotional component to owning [the suitcase] and you become a performance art piece just by using the thing. It’s like putting your items on display and rethinking the premise of a product.” Show it all off, that’s the Off-White way. A badge of honour. It’s an exciting time to own an Off-White collaboration in the lead up to Virgil Abloh’s first menswear show at Louis Vuitton. Really, it’s just an exciting time for anything Abloh is involved in. The product will officially debut on June 20 at the Off-White menswear show at Paris Fashion Week. Could this mean a travel-themed collection? On board.
