Saatchi Gallery Presents: From Selfie To Self Expression

unspecified-4

Personally, I’ve never been much of a selfie man much down to the fact I’m cursed with one of those faces that doesn’t respond well to any sort of inverted camera situation. By which I actually mean: I’m incredibly unphotogenic. I’m talking about selfies  because the Saatchi Gallery are opening a new exhibition at the end of the month. And it’s got the art world talking, apparently. Understandable, it’s not often that you see a Rembrandt sharing the same wall as a Kylie Jenner selfie, and come to think of it, it’s not often you see a selfie in a gallery full stop. Or is it? That’s the question Nigel Hurst, CEO of Saatchi Gallery, would like us all to ponder. Speaking ahead of the opening he said “the selfie represents the epitome of contemporary culture’s transition into a highly digitalised and technologically advanced age… the exhibition will present a compelling insight into the history and creative potential of the selfie”. And this is one of those those “get involved” situations – they’ll be holding a #SaatchiSelfie competition, which will run alongside the show and give sexperts (selfie experts) the opportunity to have their front camera shots showcased in the gallery.

From Selfie To Self Expression at Saatchi Gallery, running from 31 March – 30 May 2017
