Sweat is dripping, neon lights are flashing and there’s every single kind of print you could ever imagine. No, no – I’m not describing my last Saturday night (even though there was some sweat included). I’m talking about the vibe of the new pop-up to launch this Thursday at Selfridges. Set up as part of the Designer Studios on the third floor of the London department store, Super Sharp Reloaded is a space dedicated to 1990s rave fashions, prints and bucket hats included. “The queue was the catwalk,” says Saul Milton (also known as Chase of major music duo Chase & Status) while describing the times when jungle beats were king and jackets with MOSCHINO written all over them were the hottest pieces in town. Sounds familiar? Yep, it seems that those times are back, and the team at Selfridges is well-aware. Super Sharp Reloaded is opening as a vintage boutique marketplace, with multiple vintage dealers including Wavey Garms and Jazzy Badger contributing their share of rare and exclusive pieces (yes, Moschino-printed jackets too). Serving as both a hot shopping destination and an educational space for the new generation, this pop-up will be an opportunity for a full submergence into all the trends we’ve seen walking down the catwalks in the past couple of seasons. Logos – check. Neon – checked. Sportswear as party wear – double check. Selfridges is turning into a Jungle night-club and we’re bringing our glow sticks with us. Just beware – no illegal substances allowed. It’s still a department store, for god’s sake!
