Amanda Wakeley: Ready-to-wear SS17

There’s a story to the Amanda Wakeley collection this season. A story about a woman. Well, it is a womenswear collection, what else is the story supposed to be about? Who is this woman? What is her story? Well, to quote from the notes, she is “a creative… A dancer turned artist… She styles herself in an eclectic way… She treasures detail and beauty whether that be her own sculpted form from years of training… the tiny tulle edging on her dress or her Grandmother’s embellished jacket which has come full circle and once again feels new and yet innately precious and one of a kind… She lives life with intensity…”. And as any women who lives her life in intense fashion, she needs intense fashions to see her through. And what are these fashions? Think of them as a collection of immaculate separates. There’s a utilitarian edge to this. Think of this as a collection that gores from barre to easel to evening.  Oversized shirts are worn with wide, loose trousers in  soft, silky denim, fine tulle dresses are sheer, their hems dipped in inky dye. Jacquards are double faced, layered with tulle and richly embellished with raffia and beads. Dipped in luxury. But then, would you expect anything less?
