Brandon Maxwell: Ready-to-Wear SS18

This began with a quote. “For my Nanu, and all the women who have opened doors for others, whom, without their strength and conviction, we would never have walked through,” said Brandon, via a card left on the seats at New York’s swanky Doubles Club this evening. Brandon loves women, and women love him. You can hear by the cheers of the girls backstage. Why? Unashamed glamour. This was old school, high voltage, supermodel wattage fashion. Clothing for no other physical exertion than a power strut across the floor.

That’s what Brandon Maxwell’s hareem of supers did this evening – from the Hadids to Joan Smalls to Karlie Kloss who closed the show in a mohair jumper and giant puffball skirt. And the rest of the clothes? Well, they were slinky and figure-hugging, cinched at the waist and… well, it doesn’t really matter, does it? This was pure fantasy, a collection that had no interest in that tawdry little thing called real life. And all the better for it.
