Byblos: Ready-to-wear AW17

Byblos will always hold a special place in my heart. Not necessarily referring here to the fashion label, though I am obviously very fond of their designs, but more the name itself, which, for anyone who’s had the pleasure of living in Bristol and enjoys the pleasures of a mezze platter, will know it also hangs above the door of the Byblos Cafe. Don’t believe me? Take some sort of public transport there and enjoy a chicken shish wrap, mousakaat on the side, and come back to me. But back to fashion. And clothes. Sorry, sometimes food distracts us. The other Byblos, who showed at MFW yesterday, was, in a similar vein, a nourishing experience. We don’t need food. The looks appeared down the runway like exotic birds of paradise, each boasting a louder and brighter take on what had come before them. Abstract shapes interplayed with grid-like lines on a variety of different fabrics, the whole thing felt like it could have been an Imi Knoebel show, or maybe even an homage to Matisse’s cut-outs…
