Eckhaus Latta: Ready-to-Wear SS19
If you think the idea of children at a fashion show is a catastrophic one, think again. Eckhaus Latta brought a kid’s orchestra playing pots, buckets and tambourines to create a live soundtrack for their SS18 show. Seeing the beauty in chaos and cacophony, Zoe Latta and Mike Eckhaus staged a show that merged their DIY beginnings with their commercial tendencies. As each of the looks walked down the catwalk, they constantly made you reconsider of how you think of the brand. There was a blue knitted cage dress with silver tinsels, after which a completely wearable embroidered midi dress came-out. Both equally Eckhaus Latta, but each spoke to a different part of their audience.
The cast was the usual Eckhaus Latta bunch – beautiful, diverse members of their own community. Part of that group was one of our Issue 61 cover queens Paloma Elsesser, who walked the catwalk in an acid-wash denim twinset that embodied this collection to a T. A familiar idea, executed in just a slightly different way. The jeans were slightly boxy and cut at a lower-calf length, while the cropped jacket had a childrenswear quality to it. Something old, something new, put together in an exciting way. That’s Eckhaus Latta for you.
