Erika Cavallini: Pre Fall 2018
It’s not often that a collection is as firmly rooted in film as this Erika Cavallini Pre Fall 2018 offering. But on such rare occasions, we are naturally delighted for the excuse to play the trailer in the office as part of our, ‘important contextual research’. The film in question is Luis Buñel’s surrealist masterpiece The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, for which he won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1973. We haven’t seen it either, but all that’s important in reference to this collection is effortless elegance, pattern suiting and luxe fabrics that scream ‘ostentatious bourgeoisie’ at a time when the middle classes were a popular target of disdain.
That and formal dinner wear, because the film is all about a group of people who try and sit down to eat at fancy restaurants but are constantly interrupted. I mean, how have we missed this one for so long, right? The collection is designed accordingly; plenty of razor sharp tailoring and trouser and skirt suits in a vibrant array of colours from pastel tones through to vibrant pinks, greens and oranges that say ‘I buy expensive clothes because I have lots of money. I look fabulous. Deal with it’. Because the Erika Cavallini woman demands respect and attention, meaning when she sits down for a fancy dinner, you better make sure she gets it.
