Hood by Air: Ready-to-wear AW16
Shayne Oliver is a disrupter on the New York fashion week schedule. He called his autumn/winter Hood By Air show “Pilgrimage” and showed models wrapped in slit duffle bags sewn together as coats, or wrapped in that airport plastic they cling film suitcases securely shut with. We’re not dealing with athleisure anymore, Toto – as evidenced by the strutting models (male and female) in stiletto boots and patent mini-skirts launching themselves chaotically through the crowd. But – and here’s the all-important bit – the clothes were pretty great. Lots of dangling sleeves and straps and wraps and bits that reminded us of French dandy revolutionaries, and a bit of Adam Ant in his eighties heyday. An inspiring show, from an up-and-coming revolutionary of American fashion, for sure.
