Jennifer Lawrence Stars In Dior’s Fall 2018 Campaign
This Dior campaign is not just Jennifer Lawrence looking poignantly pretty in Autumn/ Winter 2018. That’s not to say she doesn’t look good – this is potentially our fave JLaw x Dior moment – it’s just there’s more than first meets the eye, often the case with Maria Grazia Chiuri’s concepts and creations. Allow us to explain. Photographed by Brigitte Lacombe, the campaign has been given the Claude Cahun treatment, an ode to the surrealist artist’s self portraits. The French photographer and writer adopted the gender-ambiguous name Claude Cahun in 1917 and was best known for creating an array of personas (no one knew she was a woman when her work began to surface). Yes, she challenged traditional ideas of gender. Her most famous quote being, “under this mask, another mask; I will never finish removing all these faces.” Exactly how we feel about our split personalities. Anyway, thanks for listening to the history lesson, now back to the campaign. It has all the Cahun influences in place, rugs hanging from the wall and a sombre stare. JLaw is good at that, a master of many masks too. And of course, the clothes. We saw them on the runway but this is their home, so right on Jennifer (hence why she’s the face) as she stands self-portraiting amongst a visible set. Claude meets Cindy Sherman. A collection for women in charge.
