Nicopanda: Ready-to-Wear SS19
“It’s midnight on a Friday night in 1999…” We’re in a dingy, warehouse-looking space with giant disco mirror balls. It’s in the heart of Covent Garden, but it feels more like somewhere far away, a Zone 5 underground club with loud Basement Jaxx remixes blasting from the speakers. The scene was set, and the show hadn’t even started. “Divas to the dance-floor please,” the opening beat of the masterful soundtrack ordered. And how they arrived. One by one, the models walked down the runway clad in the best of 1990s party wear, making us feel we were now stood outside that club now. The lights just came on, and the partygoers started swarming out, looking out for a stranger whose basement flat will host the after-party.
Velvet tracksuits, mesh dresses, and lots and lots of jersey. This was activewear, but not the kind made for hiking or running. The only activity the Nicopanda lot has on their mind starts with a p, ends with y, and has art in between. We suddenly have a desperate need for a good rave. Any tips Nicola Formichetti? For now, we’ll settle for the party tees created in collab with Merch by Amazon, they walked the show and are instantly available to shop at – you guessed it – amazon.com. Now we’re just waiting for the hangover to kick in…
