Oscar de La Renta: Ready-to-wear AW16
Peter Copping moved Oscar de la Renta, for the second season running, out of the rarefied penthouse studio of Mr de la Renta and into a ball room on 28th street. Metaphorically – and physically – he’s bringing the label closer to the people, to the street. Which may be tricky to see when Copping is showing silk faille crinolines, or slinky evening dresses frothed with taffeta or underpinned with lace, models clutching their meagre worldly possessions in a pretty (but pretty impractical) minaudière. But there was a fresh energy and verve to this de la Renta outing, to the zingy mixes of colour (acid pink and grey; cerise and a lurid tomato red-orange), and the delicate decoration that looked precious without being too precious about it.
