Paul Surridge’s New Vision For Roberto Cavalli Has Arrived

Roberto Cavalli - Capsule Collection (5)

Paul Surridge has hit re-set on Roberto Cavalli. No easy task – the venerable Italian house comes with plenty of connotations, namely: print, Euro, sex, glamour, sequins. All good things, yes – but Mr Surridge posed an important question: is this what the modern woman actually wants to wear? And, more importantly, who is the Cavalli woman now? So, back in September the newly helmed creative director served up a palette cleanser of a collection – balancing the sensuality of the house with something entirely more effortless – plunging gowns met softer Moroccan influences, whilst typically Cavalli-esque animal prints were simplified into graphic patterns and tempered with clean-lined tailoring.

Now, as a sort of capsule collection-cum-preview he is releasing upon the world 12 pieces from his debut collection, along with a smattering of accessories, which will arrive in Roberto Cavalli’s Sloane Street store, as well as the Roberto Cavalli website, ahead of rest of the collections arrival later this year. These are the pieces that Mr Surridge believes epitomise his new vision for the house – a ready-made wardrobe of pieces for a new generation of Cavalli women to be worn anywhere, at any time. Highlights, of which there are many, include the pointed babouche shoe (almost enough to convince ourselves into a flat), the incredible zebra-print outerwear and, well, just take your pick – it’s all good. Purchase by the armful.
