Ralph Lauren: Ready-to-wear AW16 (Part 2)

There was more than a hint of cowgirl at last night’s Ralph Lauren SS17 show. I want to call this uptown meets down on the ranch for some reason. The uptown element coming from Ralph choosing to show his collection uptown this season. At his Madison Avenue flagship to be specific where he built a special glass show space on the side of the building (a suitable location as it was see now, buy now). The down on the ranch coming from the hint of cowgirl. I’m likening it to Uma in Even Cowgirls get the Blues, when she hitchhikes her way to the Countesses ranch to shoot an add for ‘feminine products’. Though obviously this is far more polished, though there is that idea of Madison Avenue ad exec’s to this in the masculine pinstripe embroidered with flowers. The starting point for this was Ralph’s signature western belts, which gave way to a collection of  reworked greatest hits if you will. Western shirts, Navajo prints, suede fringing and polished leathers all made an appearance, rounded off with a finale of striking sequin columns in rainbow bright hues.
