Saint Laurent: Ready-to-Wear AW18

In the glow of the glittering Eiffel Tower the next chapter of Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent played out something like this: Hot and heavy. Hard and fast. Dark with lots of black leather and slick mid calf boots. Tiny micro length shorts were the motion, black bandanas felt biker gang-esque and black lace and velvet draped around bodices sensually. Ooh. The rah rah fringed boot that was raging last season was toned down, low key into tasselled boots and sharp hats were worn Betty Catroux style, mysteriously. Moody. The men wore crushed velvet suits, subtle flares and leather jackets. YSL rocker boys. Fur headpieces and beanies were oh so winter appropriate.

The boys had that awkward skinny swag – is there such a thing? There is when wearing Saint Laurent. Ooo so cruel cool. A series of plunging necklines in boujee dresses, totally chic. The perfect Parisian woman slyly watching from the corner of the party. Mwah. And then after all the gloomy glamour, micro 80s floral dresses were the shining light at the end of the collection, Hallelujah! Wide shouldered and ruched high up the leg. So sweet in all that after dark directness. Back to black and a gleam of silver tiger print and boom, they were off. Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’ piano rang out as the lights flickered in waves above them. And then they were gone. Saint Laurent gang is a rare sight. By night. They’ve got it going on.
