Versace: Ready-to-wear AW16

Energetic, active, in control – that was Donatella Versace’s summary of her winter 2016 show, where models marched around a circular, circuitous catwalk for three minutes each (we timed them) showing off The Don’s latest wares. What wares did they wear? Powerful tailoring and oversized coats, compact knits with hyper textured surfaces, lots of shirts in exuberant prints, a return to the Versace baroque of old but reworked in graphic black against chic icy shades of polar blue, white and pretty pale pink. Ice was sort of a theme – there were ski pants, there were cuddly furs and shearlings, there were cool cuts and crusted sequins and short skirts that would probably make you very cold come winter months. Ice ice, baby. Lady Miss Versace herself says: “This collection is so important to me. Every single piece is wearable, desirable, real. It’s about expressing a woman’s strength and her individuality.” Fabulous.
