Montcalm East Is The New Get-Away in the Heart of Shoreditch

With the Delta variant rapidly spreading across the globe, the likelihood of any of us getting to go on a proper holiday abroad this summer is looking more and more unlikely.

Though, all is not lost. Staycations are the next best step, and one of the pandemic’s only perks has been our new, collective appreciation for the treasured amenities on our doorsteps.

For all you East Londoners out there, say hello to your newest get-away: Montcalm East. Buried in the heart of Shoreditch, the brand new hotel takes inspiration from the area’s artistic scene – with the hotel’s architecture borrowing its look from Bridget Riley’s 1980s optical art.

Though despite the hotel’s handsome exteriors and lavish insides, it’s the small details that make this hotel stand out. For food, Montcalm East has worked with Barworks, the brains behind Hackney’s Mare Street Market – creating a classic menu of good grub and delicious cocktails.

Shoreditch-based design studio Blacksheep has implemented RGB colours and optical lighting throughout, nodding to the hotel’s connection to local photography.

Moving forward, Montcalm East will host a series of creative partnerships, and plan to host photography talks and workshops, as well as exhibitions inside the hotel. One of the hotel’s first artistic partners is Culture A’s Anne Trouillet Rogers, who has teamed up with the Department of Photography at Ravensbourne University London to exhibit the work of current students and Ravensbourne alumni across the hotel.

That’s not all. Montcalm East has brought MagCulture on board, who has curated a library in the hotel’s lobby – full of rare fashion, art and music publications. This is more than just a hotel – it’s a home away from home.
