Balmain: Menswear Resort 2019

The boys of Balmain are forgetting about the army and forming a gang. A very well behaved, classy gang, as expected. Don’t actually try fight them, no hands on the new Balmain, please. They’re headed to the street – or car park on the outskirts of Paris, in this case.  Menswear is having a Resort moment at Balmain, which means all those classic codes of denim vests paired with jeans, silver studded sneakers, branded knitted jumpers with fluorescent highlights and a bit of casual double breasted suiting for the evening, sleeves rolled up. It’s a collection focused on Olivier’s kind of people, “inspired by the way that I see my generation dressing today and by how confident young men are from all parts of the globe are now intent on push boundaries, while looking for more interesting fashion alternatives,” he said. It’s feels exactly how a Resort collection should. Chilled out and in it’s element. There’s no extra thought needed here, it is what it is. Which means that Olivier is fully in his Balmain menswear element. This is his kingdom. It comes naturally when you’re designing for your people.
