Zlatan Ibrahimović Talks Us Through His New Dsquared2 Collab
There’s an action-packed plot unravelling at Dsquared2. The Canadian-born brand has just dropped a limited-edition capsule collection in collaboration with Swedish football icon Zlatan Ibrahimović. Powered by their brotherly-bond, twin designer’s Dean and Dan’s collection unveiled digitally – like most things these days – as a series of sultry still lifes. Playing to their strengths, and the fierce resolution of Ibrahimović, they dubbed the collaboration Icon, as the great notoriety of the footballer was translated into bold graphics and intoxicating textures.
Shot by Giampaolo Sgura, a poignant portrait of the athlete is a recurring motif when accompanied by a powerful Ibrahimović quote: “I have never won silvers, just lost golds. Good players win races. Great players break records. Icons change the game.” The fab fashions on display are very much in tune with the irreverent spirit and sport-meets-street aesthetic we’ve come to expect from the twins. They showed slick leather biker jackets and lustrous leather trousers, while subtle paint splatters, understated distressing and stonewash finishings spruce up classic denim from beginning to end. Nylon jackets, low-top trainers, snapbacks, underwear and even kid’s clothes were also present for the release. And if you’re up for a little ink, a replica of Ibrahimović’s waist-side tattoo can be spotted on fitted jersey t-shirts.
“I have known Dean and Dan for 15 years and consider them, not only friends of mine, but hard-working people with unique visions,” Ibrahimović told 10 over email. “Even before I met them, I was a big fan of Dsquared2. The process of the collection was therefore filled with a lot of laughter and handled with professionalism, just as it should be.” With the practicality of denim and leather rooted in Dsquared2’s DNA, Icon is a collection steeped in personality offering a souped-up take on comfortable contemporary graphics, rebellion and football. Ibrahimović said, “I am a simple man, I don’t prefer comfort over style, I prefer them both. And this collection reflects that.”
