Homme Plissé Issey Miyake: Menswear SS21

Life in lockdown has probably made you want to climb the walls a few times, we know we have… Yet now Issey Miyake is encouraging you to not only scale, but “jump over the walls you once built.” Taking a philosophical approach to life post-Corona, Issey Miyake and the Miyake Design Studio at Homme Plissé are welcoming customers to use this collection as a way of meeting “your new self.” Staged in what seemed to be a showroom – adorned with a bouquet of pleated roses (where can we get our hands on these?!) – a cohort of dancers each approached a rail of clothes. Picking out their favourite, brightly-coloured looks, each dancer began to freestyle in their unique style. There were backflips, basketball spins and plenty of pleats – both tailored into smart separates and left oversized to create roomy jackets and coats. The hues were terrific – lilacs, pinks, cartoon-ey greens – paired with a series of earthy tones inspired by natural stones and rocks. The video concluded with a group flash mob of epic proportions, with pleats flying here, there and absolutely everywhere. Think of this as Step Up, just now with better fashions.
