Julien David: AW16 Menswear

Julien’s always been a dab hand when it comes to fabric. And his AW16 offering was no different – here was his take on denim, denim ready to rule the future – the Japanese stretch stuff bonded with jersey for a spongy, structured finish, giving David’s utilitarian, workwear shapes a roomy, sculptural quality. The collection was apparently inspired by Akira, a dystopian anime film from 1988, set in futuristic Tokyo (and not just because of those silver feathers atop the model’s heads) – David lifting those clean Japanese lines and obsessive functionality into a collection that was ready for any present-day man to jump into. The future’s looking bright.
