Marcelo Burlon County Of Milan: Menswear AW18
Manning the DJ booth himself for his AW18 showing, Marcelo Burlon spoke of the devout group of followers who wear his clothes in the show notes, claiming, “the people who wear my clothes want to belong to my world…they end up having this in common; and it brings people together”. Other things bringing them together include a love of tattoos, which covered models, faces and all, for a collection that felt like a celebration of belonging and inclusivity just as much as Marcelo’s many recent collaborations with the like of NBA, MLB and Timberland (we think the first two have something to do with sport?). Many of those cast were not models themselves, with several members of Italian trap collective ‘Dark Polo Gang’ also making the line up, it felt as though Marcelo was here championing the cause of those who are otherwise excluded, positioning his namesake label as a safe haven, where diversity and difference are welcomed and celebrated. And what of the clothes? Unsurprisingly, streetwear was the main port of call; hoodies emblazoned with patches, long-sleeve under short-sleeve, Vans and red and black check ran throughout, whilst Marcelo’s collaborations manifested in full tracksuits which were left unzipped to reveal inked bodies beneath. Expect this one to sell.
