MSGM: Menswear AW19

For vintage car fans, the Ford Thunderbird holds hero-status. The super-rare and collectable car revolutionised automobile design in the 1950s when the “T-bird” was born. The effusive chat and story-swapping on vintage car blogs, tell tales of wild youths racing the T-bird and of the fascinating culture that sprung up around it. It’s to the aesthetic of this world, that MSGM designer Massimo Giorgetti turned, for his first-place and winning AW19 show. The racing-style leather trousers and bombers and a beautiful camel coat came printed with trackside marketing and literature associated with the racing life. The car world’s go-faster and stick-on flame motifs decorated garments as well. One tech-y fabric coat came in a digitally-enhanced fire print – an unfortunate break-out in the pit? And for driving at night (and posing) some seriously bright haz-chem fluoro coats, his customers will love. And was that a Man Utd badge on that t-shirt? Yes, said designer Massimo Giorgetti backstage “I’ve gone back to my youth.” An MSGM Fila trainer collab is in the works. A pair of sneakers came strapped to a bum bag – watch the hype sites when they get hold of these. Giorgetti’s inspiration comes from all places all of the time. His mind is like a Magimix: blending ideas like ingredients in a soup. And when they come together, it makes one hell of a tasty dish.
