The New Napa by Martine Rose Collection Is Here – And It Might Be The Best One Yet

As big fans of both brands, we don’t say this lightly. The fifth edition of Rose’s ongoing collaboration with the Italian outdoors specialists is our ticket to next season. Making sure all this end-of-summer nostalgia turns into excitement, the AW19 Napa Martine Rose collection embraces the DIY spirit of her mainline pieces, now merged with the hi-tech and action-ready elements of Napapijri. For the first time, the joint outing also includes womenswear pieces. Even though girls have been rocking this line from the very beginning (who’s to say who can wear what?), it’s interesting so see how the clear 1990s inspirations translate between the two different categories. The addition of new patterns – hand-drawn stripes, graffiti-style leopard print and block-printed graphics – adds to the playfulness, making sure the offering doesn’t just grow in size but also in what it represents. When it launched in 2017, Napa Martine Rose was one of the first to approach activewear with a strong visual point-of-view. A couple of years later and the number of visually appealing outdoors-y brands continues to rise, leaving boring old black windbreakers behind. With this new launch, Rose’s collection is powering into a lifestyle direction – adding accessories and bags to the already established range of coats and fleeces.

Jamiroquai’s signature faux fur hats from back in the day makes an appearance too, as do outdoors dry bags, padded like puffer jackets and dyed in punchy hues and prints. Photographed in Mexico, the lookbook embraces the saturated colours dominating the collection. Pieces include archive Napapijri catalogue imagery and fun tag lines such as “Napa moments are happy moments” as printed on sleeves of short sleeve tees. While kick-flare trackies and sheer checkered bodysuits might steer away from the solely functional aspect, there’s still plenty of pieces made for the adrenaline-lovers out there. A leopard ski jacket anyone? We’re over #HotGirlSummer – bring in the sharp sub-zero temps.

The Napa Martine Rose AW19 collection is available to shop online and in selected stores.
