Stefan Cooke: Menswear AW21
Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt are firm believers that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The London-based label’s Fair Isle jumpers are big hits and its cut out argyle knits even more sought after. In turbulent times – bored of hearing that yet? – people seek familiarity, comfort, in their wardrobe, and the duo isn’t looking to reinvent the wheel anytime soon (well, at least till the pandemic’s over that is).
Instead, Cooke and Burt evolve their staples: slicing and dicing Fair Isles into scarves and using wool to envision skater-skirt dresses. (This season’s womenswear shows predicted hemlines will become a lot shorter post-pandemic, but who’s to say the lads don’t want to get their pins out as well?) These are worn alongside Cooke’s go-to slender trousers, navy capes and smart pea coats with accented shoulders and collars, as well as skinny jumpers with lattice cut-outs on the chest and below the shoulders.
The pair veer more into accessories this season: a retro-inflicted shearling cross-body bag also comes in black leather and adorned with pin badges. It all makes for a handsome wardrobe ideal for those looking to dress up again come autumn.
