Ten Looks: Gucci’s Cruise 2017 Menswear
Shamelessly nicked from Vogue Runway, your first look at Gucci’s Cruise 2017 collection for men. Yes, reader, you heard correctly. Cruise for men. For which we say: finally. See this as a little prelim to Gucci’s full Cruise collection to be shown this June at Westminster Abbey in London. Which somewhat accounts for the very British persuasion of the collection. What one might term “British eccentric”. Thoughts thus far (there’s 87 looks, we’re still processing) go something like: tweed, suiting, slim, red, tiger, bomber, bleach, skinhead, floral, boater, dinner jacket. Staffordshire pottery cavalier spaniels on a suede bomber (pointed out by Alexander Fury). Questions along the line of: can we pull off a cat-embellished striped dressing-gown as day wear? Either way, much pleasurable brain activity currently occurring. “The men’s Cruise collection was an excellent occasion to best depict my idea of eccentricity,” said Alessandro to Mr Fury at Vogue. “Everything started from my great passion for England. I tried to describe what’s going on in my imagination, which often embraces an aesthetic very similar to the English one.” And who signifies English eccentricity and eclecticism than the late, great Isabella Blow? Hence why the collection was shot in and around her family’s country pile, Hilles House, by British art-photog Nick Waplington. The result? A most satisfying dunking of British-ness, all with an added swirl of Italian elegance. Smashing.
