In news that broke mere moments ago, the BFC have announced that the recipient of this year’s Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator will be awarded to legendary photographer Bruce Weber at this month’s Fashion Awards 2016. Or, as we prefer to call him, God. According to the release which accompanied the news, he was chosen for his “incredible creative achievements within the global fashion industry” from his iconic campaigns for Calvin Klein to his work across just about every publication going – GQ, Interview, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and, of course, multiple international issues of Vogue. Unsurprisingly, our personal favs, being as we are either gay men or gay men trapped in women’s bodies, are Bruce’s many images of scantily-clad male hunks splashing about a la plage. Natch. But Mr Weber is not photographer alone, oh no, he is also a celebrated filmmaker – with his documentaries like Let’s Get Lost and Broken Noses even earning him an Oscar nomination, as well as publishing over 37 books across his career. Phew. Natalie Massenet, British Fashion Council Chairman, said this morning: “Bruce’s endurance is testament to his pure talent, his undeniable creativity and his singular warmth and generosity. His expansive body of work in photography and film is iconic, and he himself is rightly an icon of the creative fashion community. He is one of the foremost photographers and creative talents of our age who has helped shape the fashion industry we know today and I have a great deal of admiration for him.” Plus he loves dogs. And who doesn’t love dogs? Well, apart from me. But everyone else does. So, congratulations Bruce. Is midday on a Monday too early to raise a large glass of champs in your honour? Never.
