Cardi B Stars In The Latest Balenciaga Campaign
No matter where you go, or we what you do, it seems you can’t escape the #WAP. Since its release back in early August, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s chart-smashing hit has dominated all radio stations, soundtracked every TikTok and has even been turned into an orchestral version by Andrew Lloyd Webber (pretty peculiar, we know).
Yet it comes as a surprise to find out Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia is a fan of the #WAP, so much so that the designer asked Cardi B to front the house’s latest campaign. “Ya looking at the face of a Balenciaga campaign,” wrote the global star to her 74 million followers on Instagram. Sporting an elegant, navy evening dress from Balenciaga’s apocalyptic AW20 collection, Cardi lounges on fake grass – surrounded by swimsuit-wearing Barbie dolls, toy cars and the Balenciaga Neo Classic bag – our sort of glam.
This is the first Balenciaga campaign to include a celebrity figure since Gvasalia joined the house back in 2015, who usually sticks to his weird and wonderful cast of Balenciaga models. “I remember how it felt seeing myself on a billboard in NYC Times Square but Paris! I wish I was there to see it in person,” continued Cardi, as the campaign currently towers high over the city of love. We love to see it.
