Daniel W. Fletcher Invites You to Sunny Margate for his Pop-Up Shop
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside, especially when a Daniel W. Fletcher pop-up is just across the way. For the whole months of July and August, the northern designer has headed down to Margate, Kent, to open his first seasonal store.
Located slap-bang on the seafront of the town’s marina area – past Dream Land, before the Turner Gallery and right next to the local bars which play songs from Grease all day – it is the first time you can get your hands on the designer’s AW21 collection.
Why Margate, you ask? “I love the British seaside. I used to spend my summers going down to Devon and Cornwall, spending all day at the beach, getting sunburnt in the nineties,” explains Fletcher. “This summer, with none of us being able to go abroad, there’s going to be a big return to the British seaside. There couldn’t be a better time to celebrate it.”
Alongside the collection, which features Fletcher’s signature split-hem trousers, contrast-stitched denim and heavy duffle coats, shoppers will be able to splash on Margate-branded t-shirts and the designer’s very own tuck shop of sustainable, seaside treats – recycled frisbees, paper windmills, and swim shorts made from ocean plastic, included. The pop-up doubles as a workshop space, too, with Fletcher set to host a series of events with local artists throughout his two-month Margate residency.
For Fletcher’s cult following, a Margate excursion makes for a cracking day out. Top fashions? Check. Sun-kissed sands? Double Check. And a cone of chips before you head back to London – is there anything better?
