Haider Ackermann is set to join forces with Fila next month, under the guise of a common goal: to craft an authentic, unpretentious street-oriented collection. Throughout, the French designer lays claim to his usual comprehension of colour and emotive work drenched in multicultural richness and elegance; meanwhile Fila, the Italian sportswear giant, focusses on commercial value, utility and function. Ackermann’s artistic DNA is fused with Fila’s extensive heritage and pushes boundaries beyond what was previously thought possible of a sportswear capsule.
Coming from opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, Ackermann and Fila are no doubt an unexpected coupling, yet somehow, it feels like the perfect match. “I was extremely surprised when I was contacted by Fila with the idea to collaborate,” says Ackermann. “Unknown things make my heart beat faster, because I believe in the power of the unexpected, so I willingly took on the challenge. In visiting the extensive Fila archives I was struck by how elegant sportsmen were on the playing field back in the day.” Made up of menswear, womenswear and accessories, it’s an all encompassing, athletic range.
Haider x Fila will be unveiled at an emphatic fashion show in Manchester on November 17. But we suggest you keep your head on high alert for the moment the edit hits the shelves too, as this collection won’t last long on the shelves.
