International Woolmark Prize 2016/17 Winners Announced
Forget that stuff they say about it being the taking part that counts. Prizes are made for winning and, as of last night in Paris, we have two brand new ones. Well, technically three, as one is a duo. The prize in question? The 2016/17 International Woolmark Prize. And those winners? US designer Gabriella Hearst, who won the prize for womenswear, and the lovely COTTWEILER boys who took home the menswear gong. Great news. Which means that both designers will share not only a love of wool (and much technical know how) but $100,000 Ozzie dollars, mentoring support, Woolmark certification and their winning collection in a raft of worldwide retailers. Not bad. “Winning the International Woolmark Prize gives us the opportunity to share what we do with a much bigger, global audience,” said COTTWEILER after the win. “But for us, the great part of this was the opportunity to work with a different material – Merino wool – because we’re always interested in experimenting with technology and development.” Gabriella agreed, “as a designer it’s a huge honour to be recognised and I cannot wait to promote more Merino wool in the world as I believe it is the yarn of future.” Massive congrats to all three designers from all at 10! The future’s bright, the future’s merino.
