London’s Design Museum To Stage Azzedine Alaïa Retrospective

Alaïa

Word has reached us this morning that, as of next May, London’s Design Museum will be celebrating the life of Azzedine Alaïa with a special retrospective. A salute to the master designer, who sadly passed away last month, the exhibition will gather together pieces from his era-defining collection, alongside commissioned artworks and sculptures by the artists he surrounded himself with – Konstantin Grcic, Marc Newson and Kris Ruhs. The exhibition will link sculpture and fashion – after all, Monsieur Alaïa was far more than a designer, he was a sculptor with cloth, whose innovative, body-skimming cuts changed the way that fashion viewed the woman’s body.

Running from May 10 to October 7, the exhibition will be entitled Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier and is curated by Mark Wilson of the Groninger Museum, who had worked with Alaïa on the retrospective before his passing. We look forward to celebrating this incredible man and his life’s work.
