Thom Browne Launches a Kidswear Line
Start ‘em young. That’s the thinking behind Thom Browne’s latest venture. His newly launched kidswear collection is made to the same high quality and exacting standards as his grown-up clothes. The designs – all Browne’s signature – are the same for boys and girls. His iconic medium grey Super 120s wool twill suit, Chesterfield overcoat with velvet top collar, classic cardigan with four-bar, and the white classic Oxford shirt are all scaled down to mini-me proportions. His classic sweats get the same treatment.
He unveiled the new line in a film directed by Cass Bird, featuring six identically dressed kids in an office set that resembled his stores. They start off well behaved, dutifully punching the keys on old fashioned manual typewriters, but soon things get more playful. Browne’s intention was to raise a smile as well as add another layer to the designer experience. “It’s children’s wear approached from a fashion point of view,” he said. “And it’s true to the collection.”
