Vetements To Scrap This Season’s Runway Show

Can you really have too much of a good thing? Well, in news that hit Ten HQ this morning: possibly. That good thing being the brilliant Vetements, who have thrilled us since we first entered their seedy basement (as it were) a couple of years ago, since providing some of the most memorable shows of the last few seasons. But not this upcoming one – via WWD, Demna Gvasalia has announced that they will be scrapping their SS18 show that was scheduled to take place during Couture week this July, choosing instead an intimate by-appointment showroom during menswear week in June. There will, however, be a lookbook – this season shot and styled by Demna himself.

Demna’s brother and Chief Executive of the brand, Guram Gvasalia, argued his case for nixing the runway show: “there are simply just too many shows. I find it a little bit insane…When there were fewer brands, fewer shows, fewer fashion weeks and collections, fashion shows were something to look forward to. Now it feels like there is one long fashion week that never stops and goes for 365 days a year. And the routine takes away the excitement.” And, whilst we do in part agree, we are a bit sad we won’t have a “live action” Vetements moment this season. No word yet as to whether this is a permanent decision – watch this space.
