Vivienne Westwood Will Be Speaking About Climate Change Tomorrow – And You Can Hear Her Live

When you get an email with the opening line being: “climate change is real and it’s happening now,” you can’t help but pay attention. Not just because it’s probably the truest statement we’ve heard in a while, but also due to the fact it’s coming directly from the person who’s been warning us for over a decade. Dame Vivienne Westwood is a pioneer in so many ways, always bringing new conversations to the fashion table ever since her punk days in 1970s. But the conversation that’s (finally) been given the attention it deserves is that of climate change. To pinpoint this big moment not only in our industry but also in the society as a whole, Dame Viv will be speaking tomorrow at the Curtain Hotel in London, and you can be there to hear it live too.

Over the past six months, 7sessions have brought together inspiring groups of individuals, businesses and organisations via a series of speaker-led events allowing for presentation and exchange of ideas in tackling climate change as part of our daily lives, with a great focus on fashion’s role in the process. The final of the seven sessions, titled Love, Music & Mother Earth, is happening tomorrow and will include a keynote speech by Westwood who is one of the founding inspirations for the series. The presentation is part of the designer’s IoU project, urging a unite front of intellectuals, who Westwood describes as “someone who wishes to understand the world and their place in it.” While stating a sense of urgency, the focus of the event is to celebrate the positive aspects and greater ideas, with Greenpeace also hosting a talk with educational environmental art curated by Earth issue magazine filling the space. All attendees are urged to use public transport on their way to the space and use no single-use plastic. And finishing off on a high, there’s an after-party following the speeches, with the positive conversation continuing through. The drinks will be provides by Karma and Artigianale Natural Prosecco, all of which are sustainable, organic and recyclable. There’s no other way to party – come and join us at the Curtain as we try to make this world a better place with Dame Vivienne Westwood!
