Jacquemus: Menswear AW20

A Jacquemus collection always leaves us longing for somewhere hot; an exotic getaway under the sun, by the sea and with sangria by the jug load. His second time showing a mammoth co-ed show on the menswear schedule of Paris Fashion Week, Simon Porte Jacquemus stuck to what he does best. Crafting clean-cut, minimal staples that can be your wardrobe go-to’s every day of the week. Super desirable without ever losing that potent libido, these are clothes that can be worn straight from the beach to a swanky dinner reservation – still looking as smashing as when you dressed yourself in the morning.

AW20 worked through a muted palette, with washed-out beiges and pale pistachios making starring appearances. Flashes of lilac, orchid, and fuchsia also entered the foray – courtesy of this season’s not-all-so-tiny Jacquemus bags, which now even have their own Instagram filter. Some came big enough to fit all your daily essentials or even a tiny chihuahua, whilst others attached to belts could barely hold your favourite lipstick. So ridiculous in fact, we want one in every colour. There was even a Jacquemus Chilly’s bottle holder – expect to see the masses carrying them through London Fields upon their release.

The brand’s faves came plentiful – body-hugging sensual dresses, breezy knit separates and those chiseled wrap-around heels remained as gorgeous as ever. They were embodied by a chorus of model elegance that included Adut Akech, Joan Smalls, Laetitia Casta, Doutzen Kroes and both Hadids – each solid strut harking back to great days of the supers. There was an air of 1990s hip-pop interwoven throughout the collection, with the boys bouncing along to Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise with the fly of their slouched trousers left open to expose their briefs tucked in their soft-to-touch shirting. Warning: buying these clothes will most definitely make you want to book a tropical get-away.
