Armani Privé: Couture SS17

To quote those really quite annoying adverts that used to come on just before a film in the cinema: the future’s bright, the future’s orange. They, of course, were referring to the mobile phone network, but here, we are referring to Mr Armani’s latest Armani Privé offering. Which, unlike those, was neither annoying, nor has anything to do with mobile telecommunications. But it was certainly orange. Glorious, glorious orange, in shades of – let’s call it Moroccan sunset. A declaration, once and for all, that he’s not just the master of greige. Talking of Moroccan, there was something of the world traveller about this. Jet-set, first class passenger obviously – wide-leg silk trousers, almost kaftan-esque gowns, touches of animal print, all combined with the treasures she might find there – shimmering crystal bibs, chunky jewellery. And, as it unfolded it became a bit of a world tour – a shimmering jacket with Eastern-style buttoning sat next to flamenco frills, embellishments that veered towards Indian and, naturally, a touch of the Italian Amalfi-coast gentlewoman. Tis’ Armani, after all. To finish, a selection of gowns to get those couture customers on the front town applauding – delicious concoctions of plisse pleats and incredible, rich embellishments. How do you say more, more, more in Italian?
