Ashish: Ready-to-Wear SS18

Black is not the first colour you think of when you think of Ashish, if anything, it’s the last. But given that the Martin Luther King Jr quote: “only in the darkness can you see the stars” was the only thing on the show notes, we had a feeling this collection might be a bit different. Disco heaven is how we’d describe the mood. As if we had just spent the evening dancing the night away but died doing so, the SS18 Ashish show is where we might have ended up. Models walked bare foot amongst disco balls that bounced light, much like the clothes themselves. Some even had head pieces that moved on tiny hand fans, creating the illusion of a halo. Offering us a much more paired back collection, at least in terms of colour, red being the only bright hue to make an appearance, everything felt more evening bedazzled dresses that dragged on the floor, sheer PJ sets with sequin moons and stars, with “witch” “queer” and “RIP” splashed across garments the political theme of AW17 were also back in a more subtle fashion. We got everything we could of wanted; glamour, good clothes and, best of all, some hope.
