Balmain: Ready-to-wear AW16

Roll over, Beethoven! In fact, roll over Louis XIV, XV and XVI, and Marie Antoinette for good measure. Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain was an ode to the rococo, to the eighteenth century, hyped-up like never before seen – or maybe in a way we haven’t seen since early Technicolor, with saturated Laduree macaron colours and exuberant decoration. Gigi Hadid shantéd her way in a bead dripped dress not dissimilar to those multi-storied chandeliers that glitter down on Versailles’ hall of mirrors. Except, no you, not quite as simple as those… This was a good, old-fashioned celebration of opulence, each outfit reminding you that, if Paris were burning today, it would be in Miss Rousteing’s ball room hunties. And obviously, the house of Balmain is FILLED with all the legendary children – Lily, Kendall, Miss Gigi. And, indeed, we had a ball.
