Phoebe Philo is plugged in to what women want to wear – and how they want to feel. A sense of easy, of practicality, of simplicity and precision. All those elements came through in her winter Céline show, in the flat sandals, the slit-hem flared trousers, the soft pieces layered, pulled-away, buttery leathers as fluid and gentle as silks. This was Philo in one of her softest, quietest moods for seasons. Of course, there was still energy and the offering was still compelling: there were a clutch of handbags, a cool selection of tailoring, and the leather coats in petrol blues and the softest gold are stand-outs for the entire season.
