This GCDS and Bratz Collaboration Celebrates the Beauty of Uniqueness

From Italian-based label GCDS, you can always expect the unexpected and its latest collaboration with Bratz dolls proves it! Founded in 2015 by creative director Giuliano Calza and CEO Giordano Calza, the brothers aim to bridge the gap between Italian craftsmanship and global culture. Now the duo are stepping foot into the ongoing Y2K trend with a new collaboration filled with fashionable nostalgia. For this exclusive collaboration, GCDS and Bratz have come together to reimagine two Bratz collector dolls into GCDS girls, and let me tell you, they will have your inner fashion child screaming with joy. “I collect manga and cartoon toys so when Bratz approached me and said that they would like to do something with me I went absolutely crazy. I thought it was a match made in heaven,” creative director Giuliano mentions.

The two dolls named Sasha and Yasmin each have their own interests and outfits. Sasha wears a long faux fur coat, a crystal-embellished dress, a GCDS Heart bag and embellished boots pulled straight from the brand’s F/W 2019 collection. In contrast, Yasmin wears a Bratz-printed mini dress, pony-printed clogs and a load of accessories that push her eye-catching style to a new level. “I wanted to make the dolls playful. There is Sasha who I wanted to be fierce with braids and with her long faux fur coat. For Yasmin I wanted her to be like an Indian Princess to celebrate a very dolly doll girl. It’s the best of both worlds,” says the designer.

Releasing alongside Sasha and Yasmin comes an exclusive GCDS x Bratz capsule collection jam-packed full of ready-to-wear items including tees and sweatshirts, sets of bras and boxers, all-over Bratz-printed tops,  dresses and an off-the-shoulder dress with the memorable Bratz slogan ‘PASSION for FASHION’ set in rainbow crystals. Completing the collection is a slew of accessories including jewellery and a version of GCDS’ iconic Heart bag. “This collection is about bringing these girls back and making them relevant in today’s fashion. I thought that this was my time to make cool clothes for cool people and have them live their lives in the best way possible.”

To celebrate the launch, GCDS will be hosting Bratz-themed pop-ups across Milan, Rome and London. The shops will be covered in all things Bratz and will even feature fiberglass statues of the dolls wearing dreamy GCDS outfits crafted by creative artist Colin Christian.
